Widbrook has its own beautiful and tranquil garden but is also situated amidst an abundance of privately owned gardens and nurseries which are a garden lovers delight and well worth a visit. The Gardens are open from May 1st to September 30th.
The Peto Gardens at Iford Manor are a Grade 1 Italian Style Garden, the Manor originally being the home of architect and landscape designer Harold Peto (1899-1933). This is a unique and romantic hillside landscape characterised by steps, terraces, sculptures and magnificent rural views.
Corsham Court Gardens designed by Paul Methuen in 1760 with the help of Lancelot "Capability" Brown. They created a pastoral setting through the naturalisation of the grounds and using a haha to separate the "park" from the "pleasure grounds". A Great Walk was established with an avenue of trees including Cedars and Oriental Pines. The Gothic Bath House which they added still remains today.
Abbey House Gardens are the home of Ian and Barbara Pollard, the "Naked Gardeners". (They are dressed when visitors are present). Their gardens are full of creative ideas yet very tranquil and inspirational with over 200 varieties of roses and a plethora of very tame garden birds.
There are three specialist garden nurseries within easy access from our hotel and you may also like to visit the private residents gardens in Bradford on Avon open to the public during the town's "Secret Gardens" event.
When you are relaxing at Widbrook you can read about our Head Chef's philospophy on the use of natural ingredients that he has foraged from areas in the gardens and hedgerows that you can view around the hotel,
